Adult Family Care Home:
You may schedule a DOH inspection of your proposed home by contacting the county health department (CHD) in the county where your home will be located:
http://www.doh.state.fl.us/chdsitelist.htm
The home will be inspected for compliance with Chapter 64E-12, Community Based Residential Facilities, Florida Administrative Code. A copy of that code and other department codes that may apply to the establishment are at this location:

The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) regulates and licenses AFCHs. Questions concerning licensing can be directed to their headquarters and licensing office at phone number (850) 487-2515. You may also view additional information at the AHCA website:

The Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for physical plant inspections at AFCHs specific to environmental health and food service at the facility. Once you have applied for your license as an AFCH with AHCA, you will have to contact the local CHD to schedule environmental health inspections. For information regarding food hygiene and physical plant inspections, you can find related information on the department's website at:

Contact the local zoning department that covers the city or county where the Adult Family Care Home is to be located to answer your zoning question. The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), which licenses Adult Family Care Homes, may also be able to help you with that issue. You may find licensing information about Adult Family Care Homes at AHCA's web page for these kinds of facilities and should be able to ascertain the requirements for room sizes at:

Local county health departments also inspect the physical plant and food service operations (kitchens) at these facilities. Clients should contact the local county health department about Department of Health (DOH) requirements prior to opening their facility (preferably in the early planning stages, such as now). DOH requirements do not specify specific room sizes, but they do require that housing provide adequate space to meet the needs of the facility. Here is a link to a web page where you can find the health department contact information for the county in which your client's facility may be located:
