Business Issues
Group care facilities are licensed and inspected by
state agencies such as the:
Department
of Children and Families,
Agency
for Health Care Administration
Department of
Education, and the
Department
of Elder Affairs
The Department of Health has responsibilities in
the application of laws, rules, and standards regarding the sanitation,
safety, hygiene, and control of communicable diseases at these facilities. The county
health departments provide direct services in the operational
aspect of the program through regular inspections to assure that
applicable sanitary standards are maintained. In some cases,
county health departments must inspect and approve facilities as
a prerequisite for another state agency to grant an operating license
or license renewal.

There are no state fees or licenses issued in the
group care program. However in about half of Florida's 67
counties, there are local county fees and licenses for group care
inspections provided by the local health department. These
fees are passed by the local city or county commission and are not
State DOH fees. If you have any questions about local licenses for your group care facility, contact your local county
health department. License requirements vary by facility type
and county to county.
