The Healthy People, Healthy Communities, Healthy Florida
Program incorporates assuring safe drinking water into its goals
and strategies. The Florida Department of Health Strategic Plan
sets similar goals.
Goals
Reduce outbreaks of waterborne disease from infectious
agents and chemicals.
Increase the proportion of people who have a drinking water
supply that meets all USEPA standards.
Reduce the population exposed to potentially unsafe drinking
water.
Reduce the water-borne intestinal disease case rate.
Strategies
Expand public education for private well owners - -
particularly those in highly vulnerable areas.
Develop and implement a comprehensive public education
program on the Florida Safe Drinking Water Act.
Promote communications and coordination among the Department
of Health, Department of Environmental Protection, and Water
Management Districts.
Expand groundwater monitoring in highly vulnerable areas to
detect known and suspected pollutants.
